For Parsley Health’s New York flagship, ALA deployed principles of biophilic design in a 5,500-square-foot medical office. Biophilia refers to humankind’s innate connection with nature, and data shows that integrating biophilia into the designed environment improves well-being. A reception desk fabricated from environmentally friendly materials points to a plant- and daylight-filled member lounge, patients travel to exam rooms via a hallway with a plant installation focal point, and lighting positively impacts occupants’ circadian rhythms. By mimicking nature in ways proven to enhance occupants’ mood and cognitive performance, this project augments Parsley’s holistic, preventative approach to healthcare.

All designs were completed under the instruction and review of Alda Ly at Alda Ly Architecture & Design (ALA).
